Moleskine Pages- Snake Stories

As soon as the whispers turned to screams, it would be time to get out of the woods. Some days the noise followed us and there would be no respite. We'd find a safe space between a curtain and a concrete wall. and silently sing the darkness away. We learned to cope with the flames when our world caught fire. We just shed our scorched skins.

Moleskine Pages- Prayers

Our prayers attracted smiling faces with painted hearts. I saw the devil's eye in a hole in the ground.

Moleskine Pages - Popeye

"Can I watch cartoons please?". I didn't want his sweat to get on my new dress. Even with his spinach, Popeye couldn't save me.

She sat on her crazies to maintain control. But they began leaking out nevertheless. Reality was wasted on her. She lived on an edge with no safety net.

Moleskine Pages-The Great Big Void

She was coming back to life against her will. She'd made her peace with her patch of ground, with her malicious thoughts, and her fear of the great big void.

Moleskine Pages- Demons

She smiled knowing her demons were right behind her, laughing at her, holding the blue birds of her happiness captive. She could live without fear if only she could give up on those bloody birds.

Moleskine Pages - Fear Sat Close To Recklessness

" Fear sat close to recklessness with one foot on the brake. Valour waited for a moment to shine while caution threw itself to the wind. Chastity sat on lust's erection and invited love to form a threesome. Life carried on."

Moleskine Collages

How many of you out there have heard this old wives tale? That if you swallow a fruit pit you will grow a tree in your stomach and it will emerge from your 'lady garden'? I took it a step further and added children! Is it any wonder that we are all so screwed up when trusted grown ups feed us these nightmares? I was stupidly gullible and brooded over these dark possibilities for years.

I'm still working on the meaning of this one, I may come back to it at some point.

Dogs are my passion. They have been used widely in art to symbolise faithfulness, trust and unconditional love. I like to use dog images a lot to say different things. We humans really don't deserve such devoted companions.

Every fear hides a wish, is that true?

A new moleskine March 2011

So much of my work reaches back to my childhood, I feel a great need to give a voice to my 5 year old self. At the age of five I was a master at reading people and behaving in a way that would save me from trouble. My antennas were on constant alert, it was exhausting, but it was a survival mechanism. As an adult I am free to say whatever I want but why then do I still feel afraid?

I used to fantasize as a child about having superpowers, I was convinced there was a way to acquire them, all I had to do was wait for a sign. It is obvious now that these fantasies stemmed from a deep sense of powerlessness and frustration. Ok, enough with the amateur psychiatry, the less said the better.
I am posting a couple of pages from my new sketchbook. There is not much to say as they are pretty clear.
